SECTION III - FIRE AND EXPLOSION
HAZARD DATA
FLAMMABILITY CLASS: 3B
Flash Point: >212 Deg. F LEL: N/A
-EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Water,
carbon dioxide, or dry chemical
-SPECIAL FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES:
Firefighters and others exposed to vapors
or products of combustion should wear self-contained
breathing apparatus.
-UNUSUAL FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS:
None Known.

| |
SECTION IV - HEALTH HAZARD DATA
PERMISSIBLE EXPOSURE LEVEL:
The ACGIH TLV and OSHA PEL for vinyl acetate
are both set at 10 ppm for an 8-hour TWA
and at 20
ppm for the STEL. EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE:
SKIN: This material may cause skin irritation
or rash upon prolonged or repeated contact.
INHALATION: Excessive exposure to vapors
or spray m ists can cause irritation of
eyes, nose and throat. EYES: This material
may be an eye irritant.
FIRST AID: SKIN: Wash with soap and water
immediately.
EYES: Flush with large quantities of water
for 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
INGESTION: If ingested call a physician
at once.
PRIMARY ROUTE (S) OF ENTRY: Inhalation of
vapors (especially if strayed or heated).
CARCINOGENICITY: An inhalation study using
laboratory animals exposed to high concentrations
of vinyl acetate for 6 hours per day, 5
days per week over a
two-year period has resulted in the development
of nasal tumors. Some of these tumors were
shown to be carcinomas. However, at this
time, there is not
sufficient evidence to indicate that vinyl
acetate may cause cancer in humans. There
should be minimal risk when used with ventilation
adequate to maintain
atmospheric concentrations of vinyl acetate
below the recommended exposure limit.

SECTION V - REACTIVITY DATA
STABILITY: < > Unstable <x>
Stable
HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: < > May
occur <x> Will not occur
-INCOMPATIBILITY: None known. -CONDITIONS
TO AVOID: Keep from freezing>
-HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Under
severe thermal degradation - low-molecular-
weight organic compounds will be formed.
|
| |
| SECTION VI - SPILL OR LEAK PROCEDURES |
-STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE MATERIAL IS
RELEASED OR SPILLED:
Clean up with water before allowing to dry.
Sodium chloride can be sprinkled on the
spill, which may
coagulate the latex and facilitate cleaning
with water. Place coagulated waste in a
closed container. Wear protective equipment
during cleanup.
-WASTE DISPOSAL METHOD:
At this time, this material or its containers
would not be considered hazardous wastes
as defined under the federal RCRA regulations
(40 CFR 261) if discarded. Care should be
taken to ensure that the material or its
containers are disposed of in an approved
facility in accordance with current federal,
state, and local regulations.
For Further information, contact your state
or local solid waste agency or the United
States Environmental
Agency’s RCRA hotline (800-424-9346
or
202-382-3000)

SECTION VII - SPECIAL PROTECTION
INFORMATION
-RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Not generally required
during normal use and handling. The need
for respiratory protection should be evaluated
if this material is sprayed or heated in
poorly ventilated areas.
-VENTILATION: General ventilation is recommended
during normal use. Local ventilation may
be required during certain operations to
prevent inhalation of vapors.
-PROTECTIVE GLOVES: Chemical-resistant nitrile,
neoprene or rubber gloves required.
-EYE PROTECTION: Wear face shield or chemical
goggles.
-OTHER PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Wear protective
clothing to prevent skin contact. Eye wash
station and safety shower should be available.
|
| |
SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
-PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND
STORING: Avoid prolonged or repeated inhalation
of heated vapors or stray mists. Keep away
from heat or open flame. Avoid prolonged
or repeated skin contact.
-OTHER PRECAUTIONS: consult product bulletin
prior to using this material.
